    July 2006
    The Town of Delcambre and the Twin Parish Port Commission appointed five members to serve on a Joint Town/Port Steering Committee to develop a business plan for the recovery of the local economy devastated by Hurricane Rita. (KLFY News story)

    The Port of Delcambre promotes all forms of commerce including shrimp processing, industrial fabrication, ship repair and docking, recreational fishing, and tourism.

    Through the help of the LSU Sea Grant Program and the LSU AgCenter, the Steering Committee developed its Business Plan for the economic recovery of Delcambre.


  • Waterfront Developments

    July 2007
    The UL Community Design Workshop conducted meetings and charrettes with the Steering Committee and through assistance from the Louisiana Sea Grant Program, the Town of Delcambre, and the Port, provided concepts, drawings, and a brochure sketching the future of the Delcambre waterfront.


     

  • Industrial Expansion

    February 2008

    The Ports Association of Louisiana (PAL) is promoting increased funding for ports throughout Louisiana.

    The Port will apply for Port Priority funding to expand its fabrication facility.


     

  • Community Integration

    November 2006
    LSU Students developed and presented an overall plan for the Town of Delcambre, a way to unify and connect the community centers with the Town's waterfront, and emphasize its history and culture. The LSU School of Landscape Architecture devloped Master Strategies for the Town of Delcambre to connect the waterfront to town centers.

Background

The Port and the Town of Delcambre appointed a Steering Committee to research, plan, and recommend the economic recovery for Delcambre and the surrounding community.

The Steering Committee was formed in July 2006. With the help and guidance of the Louisiana Sea Grant Program and the LSU AgCenter, the Committee formulated a business plan, which the Committee continues to implement with the help of the community, our political leaders, and many, many partners and friends.
